Roughly ninety startups reached a billion-dollar valuation in the first six months of the year, according to a running count, a pace driven largely by investor appetite for anything touching AI.

While AI companies make up the bulk of the new unicorns, the list is not limited to the category. Healthcare, space technology, robotics and crypto companies all had entrants join the billion-dollar club over the same stretch.

The pace is a reminder of how concentrated venture enthusiasm has become around a single theme, with capital chasing AI-adjacent bets even in sectors that were relatively quiet for funding a few years ago.

For founders outside the AI category, the trend is a useful gut check: a strong AI narrative is helping some companies raise quickly, but plenty of new unicorns this year still came from more traditional sectors building durable businesses.
