Presentation startup Gamma buys design startup Lica to build an AI research lab
Gamma has acquired Lica, a small design startup founded by two women that turned screenshots and recordings into branded marketing videos, folding its team into a new research effort on AI-generated design.

AI presentation company Gamma has acquired Lica, a design startup that had built tools for turning screenshots and screen recordings into polished marketing videos and project presentations.
Lica was founded in 2023 by Priyaa Kalyanaraman and Purvanshi Mehta and had raised a modest four million dollars from investors including Accel, South Park Commons and Village Global. In recent years the company had focused on helping e-commerce brands produce marketing videos that stay on-brand automatically.
Rather than simply folding Lica's product into Gamma's existing app, the two companies are standing up a new research division focused on how AI models handle communication, design and video, with Lica's founders leading the effort.
The deal came together partly through existing ties: both companies share investors in Accel and South Park Commons, and the founders were already familiar with each other before talks began.
