AI agents quietly erased 10,000 marketing jobs

A new tally finds roughly 10,000 marketing roles have disappeared as agencies hand first drafts, reports and junior copywriting work to AI agents instead of new hires.

A Forbes analysis counts roughly ten thousand marketing jobs that have vanished this year, work that agencies say is now handled by AI agents rather than entry-level hires.

Research firm Forrester expects fifteen percent of agency jobs to disappear this year alone. Large holding companies are already shedding headcount at scale, one lost roughly nine thousand employees over twelve months while cutting more than a billion dollars in costs.

The cuts are concentrated at the entry level. Close to a quarter of agencies say they trimmed junior copywriting roles last year, with a similar share planning further reductions, and junior design roles have seen comparable cuts.

The work a junior did in their first two years now runs through an agent in minutes.

For founders building lean marketing teams, the shift raises a real question about where new talent will get its start if the traditional junior-to-senior pipeline keeps shrinking.
